Kindergarten Enrichment Program

The Enrichment Program was developed for children who have completed at least two years in a Montessori program. In the Primary classrooms, the kindergarten year (typically the third year) of Montessori is the culmination of all the preparation in the academic, practical life and sensorial concepts. It rounds out and completes the three-year curriculum plan of the Montessori experience.

The Enrichment curriculum includes advanced science and social studies concepts. Study units include the following:

  • Nutrition
  • The Human Body
  • The Solar System
  • The Animal Kingdom
  • The Seven Continents and their Cultures

Kindergarten children attend their Primary (3-6) class in the morning or afternoon and are introduced to advanced math and language works. For the morning Primary classes, after two hours in their classroom, they move down the hall to their Enrichment class for another 2-1/2 hours. For the afternoon Primary classes, they arrive two hours prior to the start of their Primary class, and attend Enrichment first, then move down the hall to the Primary class for the last two hours.

During the Enrichment class, the children have lunch together, incorporating within this time an opportunity to learn about nutrition, grace and courtesy, and cleaning up afterwards.

Enrichment Program

The Enrichment program, in addition to the Primary (3-6) class time, provides the best experience to bridge the independence and self-discipline of the freer environment characteristic of the Primary Montessori classroom and the more demanding outward discipline of traditional education.
